POEMAS DE LOUIS ZUKOFSKY

THE LINES OF THIS NEW SONG ARE NOTHING

The lines of this new song are nothing
But a tune making the nothing full
Stonelike become more hard than silent
The tune's image holding in the line.

AS LINHAS DESSE NOVO CANTO NÃO SÃO NADA

As linhas desse novo canto não são nada
Só a melodia tornando pleno o vazio
Igual à pedra se faz mais dura que silente
A imagem sonora suspensa nessa linha.

I WALK IN THE OLD STREET

I walk in the old street
to hear the beloved songs
afresh
this spring night.
Like the leaves - my loves wake -
not to be the same
or look tireless to the stars
and a ripped doorbell.

EU CAMINHO NA VELHA RUA

Caminho na velha rua
para ouvir amadas canções
outra vez
nesta noite de primavera
Como as folhas - despertam meus amores -
não da mesma forma
ou olhar incansável para as estrelas
e a sineta arrancada da porta

(A FRAGMENT)

And so till we have died
And grass with grass
Lie faceless as the grass
Grow sheathed with the grass.
Between our spines a hollow
The stillest sense will pass
Or weighted cloud will follow.

(UM FRAGMENTO)

E assim até morrermos
E folha com folha
Jazer sem olho feito folha
Viça embainhada de folha.
Entre nossas espinhas um vão
Que o mais quieto modo acolha
Nossas nuvens que choverão.

Tradução: Ruy Vasconcelos

THE GREEN LEAF THAT WILL OUTLAST THE WINTER

The green leaf that will outlast the winter
because sheltered in the open:
the wall, transverse, and diagonal ribs
of the privet that pocket air
around the leaf inside them
and cover but with walls of wind:
it happens wind colors like glass shelter,
as the light's air from a vault
which has a knob of sun.

A VERDE FOLHA QUE SOBREVIVERÁ AO INVERNO

A verde folha que sobreviverá ao inverno
porque oculta no vão, protegida:
o muro, transversal, e as nervuras diagonais
da alfena que mantém o ar
ao redor e dentro das folhas
e coberta mas com muros de vento:
cores de vento como se fossem um abrigo de vidro,
como as luzes aéreas de uma abóbada
que tem o botão do sol.
